Imphal, July 01 2014:
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA), Churchandpur has said that the association is an active students' body of Thadou tribe in Churchandpur.
As such, TSA supported and effectively enforced the 24 hours bandh imposed by TSA-GHQ on June 28 in protest against the indifferent attitude of Chaba Lukho, CO 7th IRB within Churchandpur district.
TSA Churachandpur in a statement said that the Kuki Student Organisation (KSO) has said that there were 34 recognized tribes in Manipur and Thadou was one of them.
But there is neither Kuki nor Thadou-Kuki in the recognized tribe list, TSA added.
Accordingly, the Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) and Thadou Students' Association (TSA) were established in 1997 as Thadou tribe apex body and students wing respectively in accordance with the Indian Constitution Part-iii, Article 19 .
Those who take themselves as leaders should have the knowledge of at least the term 'Kuki' .
Unfortunately, the present KSO is not a mandated organisation of Kuki students as it has no representative from any recognised tribe, TSA added.
The KSO is an organisation of some vested interest individuals, so it turned out to be an anti-social organisation as they opposed the social issue fought by Thadou Students' Association-GHQ on Jun 28, it alleged.
Regarding, Thadou Kuki Student's Union (TKSU), TSA-Churchandpur said that the Thadou tribe do not recognise any other student body including the TKSU other than the Thadou Students Association as Thadou-Kuki or Kuki was not a recognised tribe.
Concerned authority should not suffice the term Kuki after Thadou while issuing certificates, it added.
