DESAM set to launch education free zone drive

The State wide campaign for Education Free Zone will be launched from July 2 and observance of Education Free Zone Demand Day will start from this year on July 5 .
This was announced by the president of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur M Angamba Meitei during a media briefing held today at its Keishampat office.
Angamba further briefed the media that they have demanded to make Education Free from all disturbances and it is towards that a mass rally of the students was organised on July 5, 2008 and the drive is still going on.
The student leader further stated that, street corner publicity campaign and also poster campaign will be organised as part of the movement at various locations in the districts of the State during July 2 to 4 and the Education Free Zone Demand Day will be organised on July 5 at JN Manipur Dance Academy hall with an academic session participated by educationists and experts.
Angamba also observed that both the State and non State actors have interfered in the affairs of education in the State and added that the widespread prevalence of corruption coupled with bandh and blockade has caused tremendous and irreparable damages in the education sector.
He further charged that the minister and MLA exploited education sector towards their political ends and at the same time, insurgent groups have attacked the school with gun and bomb.
He also said that Govt does not take any measures to contain bandh and blockade and further added that the civil society organisations have also used student community when they were organising a movement.
He lastly made an appeal to University students, Govt school and college students and also private school students to organise sit in protest on July 5 as a part of the Education Free Zone Demand Day.
