One shot dead at Jessami

Ukhrul, July 01 2014:
A middle aged man of about 38 years was was shot dead at point blank range at Posaphutari area of Jessami village today .
The deceased has been identified as Athaong s/o N.Yisukiv of Pungro Village Kiphire and belonged to Yimchunger tribe of Nagaland.
Reportedly before the incident the person was travelling in a Tata Sumo towards Nagaland.
He was associated with an underground outfit operating at the border area of Manipur and Nagaland.
Jessami village is 120 kms away from district headquarters Ukhrul.
The villagers reported that they heard a gunshot at around 7.30 in the morning on the high way of Jessami-Kohima road.
The incident occurred just one and half kilometres away from the main market of Jessami village at Posaphutari near the Forest office.
Three bullet riddled his body.
The exact reason for the killing is yet to be ascertained but it is suspected that he was murdered by other rival underground group.
Meanwhile Jessami police have lodged an FIR.
Police investigation is underway.
The OC of Jessami PS said the body has been sent to Ukhrul police station for further investigation before handing it to the bereaved family.
