2 hurt in firing

Imphal, October 31 2016:
Two out of three persons travelling in a car (Maruti Alto) were injured in a firing incident that took place in front of Irilbung police station.
The two injured victims have been identified as Moirangthem Thon (18) s/o Dilamani of Urup Awang Leikai and Laishram Dhanabir (22) s/o Muhindro.
The car was driven by one Khullem Rabichandra.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, Rabichandra said that they were returning home after watching Diwali lights when they were stopped by police in front of Irilbung police station at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
As they were getting down from the vehicle, one of the police personnel allegedly opened fire resulting in injuries to Thon and Dhanabir.
"As they were injured, we didn't get down but went straight home.
After reaching, the injured men were taken to RIMS", Rabichandra said.
Urup Women Welfare Association secretary Seram Mala condemned the alleged excess committed by police without any provocation.
She further demanded suspension of the police personnel accused of opening fire.
