Student bodies call blockade on NH-37

Jiribam, January 27 2016:
All Manipur Students, Union (AMSU), District Committee, Jiribam; Kuki Students Organization (KSO), Jiribam and Tamenglong branch and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Jiribam area have jointly called a total blockade of NH- 37 from the midnight of Jan 28 to 31 .
Speaking to media persons in a joint press meet held at AMSU office, Jiribam, today, Y Sanjiv Singh, President, AMSU, District Committee, Jiribam said since October last year the students' bodies have incessantly been demanding the upgradation of Jiri College to a full fledged Government College.
The bodies have also submitted memorandum to the Government seeking a reply by Jan 25 .
The Government, however has not given any positive response yet.
Such indifferent attitude of the State Government toward the students of Jiribam is unacceptable, he stated.
J Thangboi Kuki, General Secy of KSO, Jiribam and Tamenglong branch said they will support AMSU in its demand for upgradation of Jiri College.
The student bodies further clarified that the blockade is not meant to create nuisance amongst the peoples as it is for the well being of the student community.
They also appealed to all Civil Society Organizations to support their agitation.
They also cautioned commercial vehicle counters at Jiribam and Imphal not to violate the blockade.
Emergency services, electricity, water supply and religious activities will be exempted from the blockade.
