Sainik School Imphal celebrated 67th Republic Day with great zeal and enthusiasm here on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the PRO, Defence, Imphal, Sqn Ldr KV Sijomon, Officiating Principal unfurled the National tricolour and addressed the cadets reminding them of the significance of the celebrations.
In his address, Officiating principal highlighted the objectives of the constitution and urged upon the young minds to use their imagination, enthusiasm and energy to contribute towards nation building.
He stated that the country is indeed proud of its 'unity in diversity' which marks the coexistence of various heritages, cultures, races, and languages.
He emphasised on fulfilling the commitment towards the nation to see overall development and progress.
As part of the celebration, two contingents and school band comprising 126 cadets of the school also took part in the State Republic Day Celebrations held at 1st Manipur Rifles.
On the occasion, various activities like speech competition, bara khanna and sweets distribution were organised in the school.
Cadet Yashwant (Class XII) of Shivaji House and Cadet Donail (Class XII) of Raman House bagged first and second position respectively in the speech competition.
The winners were awarded with certificates and prizes.
Cadet Linthoi (Class VI) of Tikendrajit House was given special award for her speech with an aim to encourage the young cadets of the school to participate in such events.
The 67th Republic Day celebration for Thoubal was held at Basu ground Khangabok, Thoubal district Hqs with T Ranjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal as chief guest.
The DC unfurled the tri-colour flag after making an inspection of the march past contingents.
Altogether, 32 contingents including cultural troupes sponsored by NYK, Thoubal and local organisers took part in the celebration.
SDPO, Yairipok, S Hemanta Singh attended as parade commander.
Certificates of honour and participation were distributed to the attending contingents, civil officials and cultural troupes by the DC, Superintendent of police, Thoubal, Thoubal ZP Adhyaksha, District and Session Judge, Additional DC and Commandant, 3rd Bn IRB, Khangabok.
Elected members of Thoubal ZP, councillors, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Civil Police Officials, Paramilitary forces, members of various GP, public leaders district level Officers and staff and other invitees were present in the celebration.
About 5,500 people turned up for the celebration, a statement issued by DC, Thoubal stated.
Similar celebrations were held at Bishnupur Mini Secretariat ground graced by Deputy Commissioner Bobi Yaikhom and at the Sub-divisional hqs, Gamnom Sapermeina graced by N Surjit Singh, Sub-divisional Officer and Saitu Gamphazol, Lutminthang Kipgen, SI, O/C Gamnom Sapermeina PS.
