CCpur, January 27 2016:
With the JAC Against 'anti-tribal Bills'
boycotting the Republic Day celebration across the tribal inhabited
areas of the State, the event was celebrated here within the confines
of the DC's office in an obvious departure from the standard
practice of hosting the event at Public ground.
The Deputy Commissioner delivered his address before the
crowd gathered inside his office campus and made a symbolic
inspection of the State force contingents.
Awards distribution
to outstanding Government servants, philanthropic organisa-
tions and the Chiefs remained unaffected as DLOs, security
officials, Government servants, several public leaders and
chiefs turned-up for the event.
The JAC functionaries however
held a sit-in protest in front of the police station around the
same time the Republic Day celebration began at the DC's
office.
Later in the evening, many people lit candles in front
of their houses as urged by the JAC.
Meanwhile, a social activist-turned-politician CT Lian to-
day issued an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister
reminding him that the 9 'tribal martyrs' from Chrachandpur
district are still lying unburied for the past 150 days at the
district hospital mortuary.
It may be noted here that the protest that apparently was
losing sheen has been gradually revived as the JAC continued
their sit-in-protest today as well though with a modest turnout.
Meetings have as well been conducted every night at the
hospital mortuary for the past several weeks now, and the
temporary meeting shed have also been replaced by a more
permanent structure.
