Imphal, November 22:
Maintaining undue interference with narrow outlook and imposition of restriction on election of college students' union which is being held with the main objective of honing the leadership quality of the students is an attempt to subdue the student community, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded an explanation from all concerned in connection with banning college election.
Addressing a press conference in its office here this evening, president in-charge of DESAM PC Newton said undue interference in college election smacks of a conspiracy under some hidden agenda.
The college election is being held to instil and hone the leadership quality of the students who would ultimately come the future pillars of the society and the Nation at large.
So imposition of restriction on holding election at Modern College, Porompat and Mayai Lambi College, Yumnam Huidrom while the election was conducted as usual in other colleges of the State is really unfortunate and does auger well for the future of student community in the State, Newton said.
Declaring the aspiring student candidates as not bonafide students and asking them not to contest in the election after the scrutiny and necessary preparation to contest in the election is akin to playing with their prestige and reputation, Newton said, adding that such undue threat and intimidation would also give a serious impact on the academic atmosphere of the State.
