The country wide Satyagraha called by the Sponsoring Committee of Trade Unions from December 4 to 6 against the failure of the UPA Government to implement the Common Minimum Programme will be supported by the Sponsoring Committee of Trade Unions, Manipur.
Briefing media persons at the office of All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur at Imphal today its convenor L Sotinkumar informed that the call for country wide Satyagraha was raised against the anti-people and anti-workers policies of the UPA Government led by Congress and supported by Left parties.
Based on the lack of basic infrastructure and prevailing law and order situation in the North East region, Sponsoring Committee of Trade Union Manipur will be participating in the Satyagraha during which various modes of protest agitation will be launched.
Further memoranda highlighting the basic woes and issues of the State will be submitted to the Governor and the Chief Minister during the Satyagraha, Sotinkumar said.
The protest agitation will be based on different demands which include declaration of unilateral ceasefire with all insurgent groups operating in Manipur and to bring them to negotiating table without any condition, effective control on price hike, streamlining the public distribution system, upgrading the age of superannuation of State Government employees at par with that of central Government employees, provision of Disturb Area Allowance to State Government employees, checking commercialisation of education and health sector, comprehensive legislation for the unorganised and agricultural workers, creation of an anti-corruption tribunal to check corruption and to undertake land reforms.
During the proposed agitation, federations/unions of employees under Union and State Government will stage protest sittings, said co-convenor of All India Trade Union, Manipur, Kshetrimayum Santa.
On December 6, unions/federation of non-Government sector particularly those of drivers, farmers and labourers will take out a protest rally in Imphal, he said.
