Imphal, June 22 2014:
CAF&PD Labourers' Welfare Association has threatened to launch a cease work stir if the State Government fails to translate the promise of fulfilling the demands of the association into action within July 5 .
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of the association, Romendrajit Moirangcha said the labourers have been working for the Department since past 30 years though the Department has not paid any fixed wage.
As the labourers do not have any written understanding with the Department, they are being exploited by the Department, Romendrajit alleged.
Due to the callous attitude shown towards their grievances, the labourers felt the need of forming an association and the same was changed into reality in 2011 .
Soon after the association came into being, the labourers started airing their grievances through different memoranda submitted to the Minister and authority concerned from time to time.
He added that the labourers have been working for the Department though they failed to clear the wage after February month this year.
Saying that there are 69 labourers including eight females under the association, Romendrajit said that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had assured to do 'something concrete' for the labourers at the earliest when he met them some time back.
He said that the association would launch a cease work stir if the assurance is not translated into action by July 5 .
Romendrajit also cautioned that CAF & PD must not hire new labourers in case the association resorts to the stir.
