Imphal, September 19, 2009:
The 24 hours general strike called by the JAC for 2006 Autonomous District Council Teachers Appointed Parents and Guardians since last mid-night has severely affected normal life along Imphal-Moreh Road and Chandel Bazar.
All vehicles coming from Moreh were blocked at Thamnapokpi before they could reach Pallel.
Later in the evening all the vehicles were allowed to proceed on their routes.
Because of the strike, Chandel Bazar bore a deserted look.
The general strike was called in protest against the Government order which decreed that the 835 primary teachers appointed under the six Autonomous District Councils in 2006 should face a fresh DPC for appointment of 3453 primary teachers anew.
The JAC said that an economic blockade will be imposed along both NH 39 and NH 53 from September 21 in case their ultimatum submitted to the Chief Minister is not respected.
