Imphal, September 15 2020:
Former MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency, RK Anand has drawn the attention of the Chief Minister and the Health Minister to help expedite the remaining construction work of Urban Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai Hidak Thabi and ensure health care service to the public.
The appeal was made by the former MLA while inspecting the construction site of the Urban PHC yesterday along with the officials of the Health Department.
Speaking on the sideline of the inspection drive, RK Anand said that the construction work commenced during the financial year 2016-17 under National Health Mission while he was still an MLA.
He also did his best to help upgrade the PHC at Mekola to CHC (Common Health Centre) to augment the healthcare system in the Assembly segment.
The Urban PHC at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai, if completed, will serve not only the people of the Assembly segment but also people from neighbouring ACs, he said.
However, the slow pace of construction had peeved the locals, he said while asserting that he had even started receiving complaints.
It has been learnt that the construction work has been delayed due to financial restraint, he said while expressing hope that the construction work will gain pace as he had learnt that a major chunk of required funds have been sanctioned.
The Urban PHC is to be built at the total cost of Rs 60 lakh which include Rs 10 lakh for electrification and sanitary works, he said.
Had the construction work of the Urban PHC been completed on time, it could have contributed much in reducing COVID-19 stress, he said.
Saying that the construction work is almost completed, he expressed hope the Urban PHC can become fully functional within a week if the Chief Minister and the Health Minister intervene.
If it is completed, it can be utilised as COVID-19 testing site, he added while urging all concerned to allot sufficient doctor, nurse and paramedical staff.
Later, the former MLA also distributed edibles to the people living within containment zones at Langthabal, Lairenjam, Haobam Marak Irom Leikai, Heinoukhongnembi, Thokchom Leikai etc.
He also expressed gratitude to the Government for the containment measures being put in place and went on to appeal to all residing within containment zones to act responsibly and not to roam outside the zone.
