The State Cabinet has agreed to set up a medical college at Churachandpur.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held today at the conference hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat with Chief Minister N Biren in the chair.
The Cabinet meeting decided to augment Churachandpur district hospital by investing around Rs 250 crore so as to upgrade it to the level of a medical college, sources informed.
The meeting agreed to pay 13 months' salary to frontline staff of Forest Department and hike the monthly pension of retired journalists to Rs 8000 under Manipur State Journalist Pension scheme, informed the sources.
Construction of a guest house for VVIPs at the old High Court complex was another decision adopted at the meeting.
The State Cabinet also decided to construct Government residential quarters at New Checkon tribal colony and an institutional building over the plot owned by the State at Gurgaon.
As agreed at the meeting, State Government would act as guarantor to take a loan of Rs 1200 crore for implementation of six infrastructure projects through HUDCO, said the sources.
Amendment of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act, 1991 and formulation of a regulation regarding jhum cultivation were two other decisions adopted at the meeting.
The State Cabinet further agreed to expansion of cadre posts so as to make room for promotion of MCS grade-I and grade-II officers.
The State Cabinet also gave its consent to upgrading Ninthoukhong PHC to the level of a CHC and appoint three data operators cum office assistants, 29 LDCs, 10 peons and one chowkidar for the Taxation Department.
