Security tightened ahead of I- Day

Imphal, August 03 2016:
Security forces conducted combing operation on Wednesday in Imphal West's Langthabal Kunja area ahead of the coming 69th Independence Day celebration in the State affected by militancy for decades.
Police sources informed three persons were pulled up from Lanthabal Kunja area during the operation carried out early in the morning, adding they have been handed to Singjamei Police Station for further verification.
The operation was jointly conducted by personnel of 6 Assam Rifles, commandos and women personnel of Imphal West Police.
Combing operations are likely to continue in Imphal and vulnerable spots in other parts of the State in the coming days to thwart attempts by militants to disrupt the ensuing Independence celebration on August 15.Security measures have been beefed up ahead of Independence day, they said.
Various militant groups have been boycotting Independence day every year by calling general strike for the past many years in the State.
On the other hand, Imphal West district police conducted a search operation at Thangal bazar Ngari Gali today.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Imphal West commando DSP S Sachidananda.
12 persons who could not produce identity proof documents were detained at City police station for further verification.
