Imphal, August 03 2016:
Around 50 passenger vehicles operating on Tidim Road were pulled up today for not complying with relevant rules and standards.
The vehicles pulled up by the State Transport Department included diesel auto-rickshaws, Tata Magic vans and winger vans.
While some diesel auto-rickshaws were pulled for expansion/elongation of the drivers' seats, other vehicles were pulled up for operating without necessary licences, informed Transport Inspector Th Dinachandra.
The special drive was launched from today after the extended deadline for rectifying the discrepancies expired on July 30 .
A similar drive was launched earlier within Imphal city in association with Traffic Police.
During the drive, many vehicles were pulled up for overloading and defying parking rules, Dinachandra said.
Announcing that the drive would continue in the coming days too, he appealed to all the transport organisations/societies to cooperate with the Government.
All the vehicles pulled up today have been taken to the MSRTC complex.
