Interaction programme on Orchid cultivation held at Bioresources Park

A one day interaction program on orchid cultivation was held at Bioresources Park, Haraorou on October 19.Dr Pulok K Mukherjee, Director, IBSD graced the function and the program was attended by the scientists and officials of the Institute.
The program was organized under the IBSD's flagship program on orchids entitled "Conservation, Propagation and Mass Multiplication of Selected Orchids Species For Developing Biobased Entrepreneurship in North East India" .
Under this program, orchid plantlets were distributed to 50 potential farmers for entrepreneurship development and to start their own mass cultivation to uplift their socio-economic conditions, said a release of the IBSD.

The farmers assembled at the program consisted of different groups such as unemployed youths, skilled labourers and also housewives who want to initiate entrepreneurship development regarding orchids cultivation, the release said.
The main aims of the interaction program were to give information on importance of Orchids species which can be used as ornamental cut flowers with a long shelf life and this occupied 80% of the market value.
A detail write up regarding cultivation and harvesting techniques on Orchids were also distributed, it said.
SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) related to COVID-19 were maintained throughout the program including usage of sanitizers, face masks, social distancing etc, it added.
