Lamka, August 20 2013:
The Zomi Council has today retorted to alleged ZoRO statement on 3rd World Zomi Convention which the former has planned to organize sometime next month, saying it only exposed immaturity of the present ZoRO leadership.
The Council also claimed that it now understands why ZoRO declined their request to be a co-organiser of the said event, which is planned to lay emphasis on the spirit of co-existence and non-political in nature.
ZoRO's open support for an 'exclusive political demand' raised by a certain group in Manipur despite claiming to have pursued the objective of re-unification of all Zo-fate at the international level also testifies their ignorance about ground realities in politics, said the Council's statement issued by Chinminthang Mate, Vice Chairman-cum-Info & Publicity Secretary of Zomi Council, General Headquarters.
Their misadventure has turned them into an organisation which tries to meddle into the internal affairs of other state, said Mate adding, Zomi Council appreciated the political activities of ZoRO at the international arena, yet politics sans mass-based sound like an empty vessel.
The Zomi Council said, 'although both the Zomi Council and ZoRO have similar view on the concept of Zofate/Zosuan (descendants of Zo), our approach could be poles apart: They have focus on political unification of the Zofate whereas our immediate concern is on promoting the socio-cultural and economic ties of the people by adopting the principle of peaceful-co-existence.
Further Zomi Council is an Apex Body of various Zomi tribes who subscribe to the Council's ideology whereas ZoRO is an NGO of the NGO among the Zofate' .
Thus, the First and Second Zomi Convention might be politically motivated, yet the 3rd World Zomi Convention to be organised by Zomi Council will emphasis on Cultural Exhibition amongst the Zofate as well as Cultural Exchanges with other border communities to promote the spirit of co-existence, it said.
'With or without the sponsorship of ZoRO, we anticipated an overwhelming participation from every community from different parts of the world' .
