A meeting of the State level Export-Import Promotion Committee was held today and it decided to declare Kuraopokpi area of Kakching as special economic zone for infrastructure development.
Notably, the State Government has already identified Kuraopokpi for development of timber park.
Among others, Ministry of Commerce, Joint Secretary Ravi Kapur and Principal Se-cretary (Com&Ind) O Naba- kishore were present at the meeting which was presided by Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga.
The meeting decided that the areas acquired by the State Government for development of a timber park at Kuraopok-pi would be declared as a special economic zone and goods produced here would be of such standard that they are fit for sale in international markets.
A detail project report which would required for the declaring the area as a special economic zone would be prepared by Industries Department.
To construct a cargo terminal at Tulihal Airport so that it could handle export-import trade as and when it is upgraded to an international airport was another resolution of the meeting.
The meeting further discussed about developing a permanent exhibition site at the Commerce and Industries' plot located at New Checkon, conveyed an official source.
