Imphal, July 09 2015 :
CPI Manipur State and its allies CPI (M), CPI (ML), RSP and Forward Bloc have strongly condemned the killing of a Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy in police action yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference, CPI Manipur State Council secretary Dr M Nara said that chaos prevails in the State due to misgovernance by the State Government.
Observing that yesterday's police crack down against agitating students could have been avoided, Dr Nara said that police never resorted to such actions although similar rallies and agitations keep on being staged in Delhi.
Manipur police must be given proper training to control a mob before they are put on duty, he observed.
The present State Government has exposed its incompetency in tackling such a situation, he said and added that the Government is still adopting oudated techniques.
Although, people have been demanding a law similar to ILPS, the State Government has passed a Bill which does not fulfil the people's wish, he said.
Saying that the Governor is yet to give his assent to the Bill, Dr Nara said that the Bill must be amended according to the aspiration of the people by extending the ongoing Assembly session, which would wind up on July 10 .
He said that the situation would get aggravated if the Government does not heed the voice of the people.
Former Minister N Mangi said that the Chief Minister had told the people of the State some time back that Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill-2015 could be amended 100 times.
As such, the Government must amend the Bill after it is discussed in the State Cabinet, he observed.
Condemning yesterday's police action, Mangi said that it was not right to fire teargas shell or rubber bullet at somebody's face.
N Mangi also demanded the Government to withdraw the curfew considering the inconvenience faced by the public.
He also expressed concern over not issuing curfew pass to the leaders of different political parties.
