Imphal, April 07 2018:
National People's Party (NPP) president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has categorically stated that only NPP can bring unity among the North Eastern States and take the region to a higher trajectory of development.
He was speaking at a felicitation function organised by NPP Manipur at Lamboi Khongnangkhong today in his honour and his Cabinet colleagues.
The North East region is still backward and it is facing a number of challenges.
There is no unity or cohesion among the people of the region and there are political parties which have been capitalising on this disunity for political gains but NPP will work in the common interests of the region, Conrad Sangma said.
NPP understands that there are many differences among the people of the North East region but they can unite and NPP is confident that it can take the region forward, said the Meghalaya Chief Minister.
He also underscored the need for a common platform of all the North Eastern States so that they can struggle collectively for their rights and aspirations.
With more and more people convinced that only NPP can protect the North East and take the region forward, the party has taken firm roots not only in Meghalaya but also in Manipur and Nagaland, he claimed.
He also expressed deep gratification on the gold medal feats in the ongoing Commonwealth Games by Mirabai Chanu and Sanjita Chanu.
"I feel proud that their outstanding performances are achievements of not only Manipur but the whole North East region", Conrad K Sangma said.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar said that the words "NPP for united North East" written on the backdrop of the felicitation function are not empty words.
NPP believes in a united North East and the party has been working towards this vision, he said.
Apart from Conrad K Sangma, his Cabinet colleagues Prestone Tynsong (PWD Minister), James Sangma (Home Minister) and Nagaland MLA L Khumo were also felicitated at the function where Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar, YAS Minister Letpao Haokip and Tribal Development and Hills Minister N Kayisii were also present.
