Hun festival will further strengthen the bond of brotherhood in the State: Dr Najma Heptulla

Governor Dr Najma Heptulla expressed hope that the Hun Festival, which is an important cultural festival of Thadou tribe, will further strengthen the bond of brotherhood in the State.
She was speaking as the chief guest at the celebration of 'Hun festival 2018', marking the occasion for thanksgiving Prayer on sprouting of plants for a bountiful harvest.
The main festival function was held at Keithelmanbi Military Colony, Kangpokpi District.
Stating that the festival is a joyous and auspicious occasion, the Governor exhorted the people to set aside differences and work for the overall welfare and development of the State.
'Hun' is celebrated during spring and this festival provides an opportunity to introspect one's past and plan for the future, she added.
She further stated that the festival, represents and reflects the lifestyle of Thadou people, their rich culture and identity.

Addressing the crowds participating in the festival, the Governor said that Thadou being a large community in the State has provided immense contribution towards the integrity of the State.
Their role in the freedom struggle of India and the Anglo-Kuki War during 1917 to 1919 stands testimony to their bravery and love for freedom, she added.
The Governor further added that the celebration of 'Hun' will not only help in promoting collective identity of Thadou brethren but will spread the message of peace, love, communal harmony, friendship and brotherhood amongst the different communities in North East and especially in Manipur.
She also urged all the citizens to guard themselves from the divisive forces which pose a great challenge to the age-old tradition of peaceful co-existence.
The Governor also stated that all differences should be settled through talks and negotiations and not resort to violence which severely affects the poorer section of the society.
"Manipur is a poor developing state and poor in money but I feel it so rich in its culture and I do not think there will be so many culture festivals like Manipur anywhere in the world.
I will ask the Ministry of Cultures to promote the rich culture of Manipur", asserted Dr Najma Heptulla.
Agriculture Minister, V Hangkhanlian attending the festival as guest of honour said that the ancestors celebrated the festival as a seed sowing ceremony and it is a cultural and traditional heritage passed down by the forefathers: Like agricultural products, we should also sow and reap our own hard work, he added.
Delivering her functional president's speech, Social Welfare Minister, Nemcha Kipgen said that the festival' provides a platform for all to unite, share love and nurture the cultural heritage which the forefathers had observed and left as a legacy to continue.
The festival was also attended by public leaders, social workers and leaders from both civil and students organisations.
