Imphal, April 07 2018:
Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) has strongly decried the State Government's move of shifting the site for construction of Imphal East District Hospital from its previous location at Sagolmang in Khundrakpam AC to Kyamgei Mamang Leikai in Keirao AC.
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, PDCC secretary Thoudam Hemjit demanded the State Government to produce a white paper detailing the reasons for shifting the construction site at the earliest.
He reminded that former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had already laid the foundation stone for construction of the district hospital at Sagolmang in Imphal East on December 16, 2011 in the presence of Health Minister L Jayantakumar.
He contended that the construction work of the district hospital at Sagolmang was stopped after the site was fenced.
Reiterating that PDCC and locals of Sagolmang had urged the Government to carry on the construction work, he confided that the then and present Health Minister L Jayantakumar visited the previous site in July of last year after he was again inducted as the Health Minister in the present BJP-led coalition Government.
During the visit, Jayantakumar expressed shock on seeing the condition' of the impeding process of the construction work.
He had given a commitment for completion of the construction of the district hospital soon, he said.
Even after repeatedly reminding the Government, the construction work never continued and in stark contrast to the commitment given in the past, the Health Minister laid the foundation stone for construction of the district hospital at Kyamgei Mamang Leikai yesterday, he lamented.
Saying that the Government' move of shifting the site enraged the people of Sagolmang very much, Hemjit declared that PDCC will endorse every steps taken up by the people of Sagolmang against the shifting of the site of the district hospital.
