Endorsing the cause of Meetei Mayek, All Manipur Hills Meetei Mayek Apex Committee has announced its decision to extend full support to the agitation being spearheaded by MEELAL for replacing the Bengali script text books with Meetei Mayek in all the schools and colleges from the current academic session.
In a statement jointly signed by Committee president S Pamei and secretary general Paolenmang Kipgen decried the State Government taking 26 long years in taking a definite decision on implementation of the script which have been already endorsed by the then Chief Minister Yangmaso Shaiza in 1979.Denouncing launching of launching crackdown on the Mayek activists, the joint statement contended that arresting them and putting in the jail would not be able to cover up the mistake committed by the Govt.The Committee also demanded release of all the arrested Meetei Mayek activists.
Meanwhile, Kanglei Chanura Chaokhat Lamjing Lup (Kangleichall) has also categorically stated that it would start taking part in the movement being launched by MEELAL if the State Government does not resolve the issue of implementation of Meetei Mayek at the earliest possible.
