The total amount of electricity taxes that remain unpaid to the State Electricity Dept by the different depts of the Central Govt as well as the State Govt is estimated to be about Rs 1,327,045,719, informed a highly placed source.
Informing that not a single Dept of the State Govt, which acquires power from the State Electricity Dept, has managed to clear all its electricity taxes, the source said that even the Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister's secretariat and Ministers have failed to clear their electricity taxes.
The total amount of electricity taxes that are yet to be cleared by 47 Depts of the State Govt has touched the Rs 207,539,543 mark, said the source adding that PHED with a total debt of Rs 86,657,660 occupies the top slot among the Govt's depts which have failed to clear their pending due to the State Electricity Dept while Statistics Dept with a debt of only Rs 1,944 has the least amount owed to the Electricity Dept.
Moreover the electricity taxes of semi-Govt establishments which are functioning under the State Govt has also reached Rs 49,356,574 mark due to non payment of taxes by the institutions for the last may years.
Disclosing that the six District Councils of the State have also failed to clear their dues which total about Rs 2,638,549, the source said that the total amount of the electricity taxes owed to the State Electricity Dept by the State Cooperative Bank, Manipur Rural Bank, SBI, UBI and UCO Bank is about Rs 56,201.Out of the total Rs 12,944,099 owed to the State Electricity Dept by the 26 Central Govt offices/establishment based in the State, Assam Rifles with a total sum of Rs 13,40,768 has the highest debt followed by BSF (Rs 5,82,443), CRPF (Rs 3,21,140) and Army Rs (1,58,657).Four Cooperative establishment functioning under the State Govt have also failed to clear their dues for the last many years and the amount has reached Rs 6,15,198, added the source.
Interestingly, the State Electricity Department too have not been able to clear its own electricity taxes which is estimated to be about Rs 1,41,03,209 said the source adding that the Electricity Dept is also facing a lot difficulties as the various Divisions of the Electricity Dept have also failed to clear their due which runs to crores of Rupees.
