Imphal, March 20:
Even as the MSCP and the BJP are locked in a legal tussle over the ownership of the office plot located at Keishampat Thoubal bus parking, matter has come to light that pattas have been granted to four individuals inside the office compound.
The office covers a total of 0.2186 acre while the plot of land given to the four individuals is 0.08acre.A well placed source informed The Sangai Express that the pattas were granted through a back dated order by some officials of the Settlement Department.
The matter is likely to be discussed on the floor of the Assembly tomorrow.
The office plot was previously allotted to the MSCP vide an order issued on November 7, 1998.The then Revenue Commissioner was Ch Birendra while L Amujao, who was then a Minister was the vice president of the MSCP while Y Mangi was its general secretary.
The status of the office however took a controversial turn, when the then president of the MSCP, Th Chaoba announced the merger of the party along with the office plot with the BJP on February 14, 2002.Even though pattas of some portion of the office land have been given away to some private individuals on the sly, the area of the office site is still intact with the record at the Revenue Department.
At first the patta covering the area of 0.08 acre was allotted in the name of the vice president of Indo-Burma Sugnu Road Drivers' Association N Dhaka and later it was divided amongst the four into 0.02 acre of land each, said the source.
The other three against whose names the pattas have been allotted are, Asem Kameshor of Sagolband Akham Leikai and his son A Santoshkumar, S Rajeshwor a former president of Youth Congress (I) of Nagamapal and Robin Singkham son of S Kingson of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
The source further said that the Asem Kameshor is the alias of an officer of the Settlement Department who had a major hand in changing the office plot in favour of Th Chaoba when the merger took place.
Meanwhile the further hearing of the case over the plot of land will continue on March 22.
