The All Tribal Students' Union, Maniur has called off its economic blockade with effect from today, but struck a warning, stating that they will agitate with renewed vigour if the State Government reneges on its assurances.
In a statement issued to the press today, the student body said that the decision to call off the stir was taken following the assurances given by the State Government to redress their grievances in matters of education; bearing in mind the hardship faced by the general public, in view of the forthcoming HSLC examination etc.
The student body however made it clear that they are not at all satisfied with the "pacifying assurances" given by the State Government and the orders issued in the last 2/3 days.
Besides, the assurances given by the Government did not touch the core issue raised by ATSUM.
Making its stand clear, the student body said that they will come back with renewed vigour if the State Government fails to make any positive response and take up appropriate measures in the immediate future.
ATSUM further said that it would definitely keep on demanding basic infrastructure, teachers, and full fledged Headmasters in all the schools of the hill districts as well as teachers.
"Mere rationalisation of teachers and transferring them from one place to another is not at all going to be the solution of all these chronic ailment," observed the student body.
The student body has also expressed its heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all those who extended their support to their agitation.
