The 74th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed at Nungba Headquarters yesterday with Major RS Thakur of 35 AR Nungba Post, chairman of Rongdai Village Authority Paokhuilung Gangmei and chairman of Nungba Village Authority K Jangai as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Dr Benjamin Gangmei, the lecturer of United College, Chandel was the main resource person of the function who spoke on the contribution of Jadonang in the society.
Floral tributes were paid followed by two minutes silent prayer in honour of the departed leader.
Various cultural dance and song were also presented by the students of Government High School, Nungba; Little Princess English School; St John�s School; New Harvard Academy,; Nungba Women Society; Luangba Namdu Youth Club, etc.
The thrilling Haipou Jadonang parade was displayed by the students of the Little Princess English School, Nungba.
The observance intra-alias also adopted three different resolutions.
The resolutions are to constitute a regular committee under the name and style of Haipou Jadonang Death Anniversary Observation Committee, Nungba Sub-Division, to urge the Government of India for recognising Haipou Jadonang as one of the freedom fighters of India and to organise seminar on the life and achievements of Haipou Jadonang.
Speaking at the occasion Major RS Thakur expressed that Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu were the two prominent freedom fighters of India that the State of Manipur produced.
Dr Benjamin emphasised that Haipou Jadonang was a true patriot as well as a charismatic spiritual leader with a political vision and he was ahead of his generation.
