The representation submitted by BRTF appealed to the State Government to issue instructions to security authorities concerned for control of movement of all types of vehicles on Imphal-Jiribam highway from October 24 to 30 and allow light passenger vehicle and emergency vehicles only.
According to the representation, the condition of NH 37 (Makru area approx 6 Kms) has fully deteriorated on account of movement of over loaded trucks of NF Railway and heavy rainfall in September.
Around 100 over loaded trucks of NF Railway are plying every day both ways, it said.
Immediate repair/maintenance work is required in Makru area.
Two-way movement of vehicles is required to be stopped for at least seven days with the exception of light passenger vehicles (tempo truck) and emergency vehicles and thereafter, there should be only way traffic for 15 days i.e Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Jiribam side to Imphal and rest of days from Imphal side to Jiribam.
It further informed that the Barak suspension bailey bridge has been damaged with a minor crack in the ninth panel of bottom chord due to movement of overloaded vehicles of NF railway.
