Chandel, October 22 2016:
Kuki civil society organisations have decried the indifferent attitude of the State Government towards the victims of natural disasters, reports our correspondent.
While visiting the landslides affected villages under Khengjoy sub-division, Ngamkhosei Sontak, president of Kuki Chiefs' Association, Chandel said that the natural calamities which hit several villages last year killed 10 villagers apart from destroying properties worth about one crore rupees.
Many villagers were also displaced.
The villagers are still suffering since the State Government has failed to take up any rehabilitation programme.
Even after the State Finance Department had issued encashment order of the first instalment of IAY for the district on September 23, the authority concerned is yet to encash the amount.
The validity period of encashment is also ending soon, said Sontak.
He also said that Kuki CSOs will be compelled to launch agitation if the State Government fails to release the fund within October.
KSO Chandel president Doumang Haokip said that villagers under Khengjoy sub-division have been reeling under lack of electricity soon after the landslides occurred.
Moreover, newly constructed Power Sub-Station at Joupi is still non-functional, he added.
He further said Tengnoupal-Joupi-New Samtal road which was blacktopped few months back is already in bad condition since quality was maintained while executing the construction
work.
