UG member arrested

A combined team of Imphal East commando and a column of 26.Assam Rifle, today, arrested one active member of UNLF who is allegedly involved in the ambush carried out against 28 Assam Rifle of Nepali Kuthi, at Nbngpok Keithelmanbi on December 2006.According to a police source, acting on specific information about the presence of some active UG members in and around Andro Awang Leikai and its surrounding locality, a combined team of Imphal East commando and a column of 26 Assam Rifles, launched a cordon search operation in some suspected houses of Andro Awang Leikai.
During the search operation, one active member of UNLF identified as Chingakham Tondon alias Apamba (32) s/o Ch Pakchao of Andro Awang Leikai was arrested from his residence at around 4 pm today.
During preliminary interrogation Ch Tondon revealed that he joined the outfit in December 2005 through one Ranjit of Yairipok Yambem and got his basic training at Mualnuam, Churachandpur under the command of one self style Lieutenant Khongnangthaba.
Tondon further revealed that he took active role in the ambush upon 28 Assam Rifles of Nepali Kuthi, Nongpok Keithelmanbi on December 2006, under the command of one self style Major Shivakumar of UNLF, after which he went to Burma said the police source.
The arrested person along was later handed over to Andro PS for taking up necessary legal action.
