It may be mentioned the investigation of the alleged fake encounter/extra judicial killing of Soram Ranjit at Hatta Golapati on February 16, 2008, was taken up by CBI /SIT, after a case was registered in October last year.
The deceased Soram Ranjit alias Rojit s/o Kamini of Kangpokpi bazar, was killed in an alleged fake encounter on the night of February 16 night by a team of Imphal East commando Apache bike team, at Hatta Golapati, near Imphal river bank (under Porompat PS).
At that time, police claimed that Ranjit was killed in a shoot-out with three Apache teams of Imphal East commandos, at around 7 pm and it was also claimed that the shoot-out ensued after the deceased Ranjit, first opened fire on seeing the approaching commando team and he was killed in the retaliatory firing.
Police also claimed to have recovered one 9 mm pistol from the possession of the deceased.
On the other hand, the family members of the deceased, at that time, cried foul over the death of Ranjit and claimed that Ranjit was married recently and he had gone to ask one of his friends from Khurai to return his money.
Soram Ranjit was studying in class XII at Kangpokpi Elite School at the time of the incident.
