Imphal, October 04 2016:
Around 30 people who reportedly claimed themselves as volunteers of AMSU allegedly thrashed one Kongbrailatpam Bidyananda inside the class room of Physics (Honours), DM College of Science.
The AMSU volunteers also allegedly thrashed another DM College of Science student Khaidem Santosh (fifth semester) inside the college campus.
K Bidyananda (first semester) is said to be a candidate for Boys Common Secretary of DM College of Science Students' Union.
Later students of DM College of Science, DM College
of Arts and DM College of Commerce staged a protest in front of DM College of Science against the physical assault of the two fellow students.
Some of the protesters said that the AMSU volunteers went on thrashing the two students despite repeated intervention by teachers.
Strongly condemning the alleged excesses committed by AMSU volunteers, they demanded that the AMSU office located within DM College campus should be shifted.
Even though AMSU is said to be a student organisation, they don't respect teachers.
Rather they have been challenging the student community, said the students.
The protesters declared that they would boycott classes of all the three colleges from today.
As Bidyananda sustained injuries on different body parts including head, he is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the JAC Against the Assault of Two Students of DM Science said that all institutions located within DM College campus would be shut down until the AMSU office is shifted.
It demanded that all the assailants should be pulled up by 6 am tomorrow.
On the other hand, a press release jointly signed by DM College of Science Students' Union social and culture secretary Kh Sushilkumar and magazine secretary Chanamthabam Martin said that the call for class boycott from October 5 is implausible.
It also appealed to all students to avoid any form of violent confrontation.
Informing that exam schedules for 5th semester and 1 st semester have been already fixed, it appealed to all students and teachers to attend classes regularly as usual.
