Imphal, October 04 2016:
MLA Kh Joykishan has accused the State Health Department of doing very little even as outbreak of Dengue has been confirmed at Thangmeiband.
Speaking to mediapersons at his Khoyathong residence today in presence of functionaries of clubs/organisations located within Thangmeiband AC and the Imphal West Chief Malaria Officer and District Medical Officer.
The four persons who have been tested positive for Dengue, blood samples of 15 other people have been sent for laboratory tests.
While appreciating certain precautionary measures taken up by Health Department is some areas of Thangmeiband yesterday, Joykishan said that there were cases of fatality in Churachandpur district due to Dengue but the Health Department is as good as dead.
Even as the people of Thangmeiband and surrounding areas are caught in a panicky situation, the State Malaria Officer rejected a proposal to carry out fogging exercises.
The State Malaria Officer was contending that carrying out fogging exercise is against guidelines.
The officer was saying that in case the mosquitoes get adapted to fogging, they would get more resistant which is quite confusing, Joykishan said.
Imphal West Chief Medical Officer H Kulla and District Medical Officer Dr M Thoinao maintained people need not be too panicky about Dengue.
They said that a mass awareness campaign would be launched tomorrow apart from treating mosquito nets with chemicals.
They further appealed to all the people not to keep stagnant water around houses so as to avoid breeding of mosquitoes.
