Source: The Sangai Express
Imphal, August 25 2016:
Responding to the ongoing campaign of The Sangai Express on traffic management in Imphal city, many citizens have suggested construction of multi-storey parking lots and shifting of many key Government and private offices located within the limits of Khwairamband.
One Premnath of Thoubal Wangmataba appealed to Motor Vehicle officials to stop random checking of passenger vehicles as it amounts to harassment of passengers.
If they must check passenger vehicles, they can do so at the parking lots.
Halting moving passenger vehicles for checking amounts to harassment of passengers, he said.

Passenger vehicles which originate from Thoubal are given parking spaces in front of GM Hall but they are not allowed to cross Sanjenthong.
As such, many people who must visit the Secretariat have been enduring a lot of difficulties.
Even though passenger vehicles which come from the direction of Thoubal are not allowed to cross Sanjenthong due to the sheer traffic congestion in front of the Secretariat there is no such restriction on private vehicles.
This system is discriminatory to people who are travelling in public carriers rather than driving their own vehicles.
Premnath appealed to all the authorities concerned to formulate a plan to construct multi-storey parking facilities in order to reduce traffic congestion at Imphal city.
One Y Deben of Leimakhong, Imphal-Ukhrul road suggested shifting of Government and non-Government offices located within Imphal city limits elsewhere so as to avoid over-crowding in the city.
Deben said that the authority concerned should not issue driving licences to children below 18 years of age.
Oinam Chandramani of Kwakeithel, while pointing out that there are instances when vehicular traffic comes to a standstill at busy traffic conjunctions due to lack of coordination between TCP and police personnel, expressed keen desire for TCP personnel and police personnel to maintain smooth coordination.
He appealed to all the citizens to stop parking private vehicles on road sides in Kwakeithel areas where road construction works are incomplete and also to avoid piling up construction materials like sand, stones and steels on the road sides.
One Wangkhem Inaobi of Thoubal Thokchom suggested incorporation of signal alarm system in all light vehicles as people often forget to turn off signal lights.
Heavy vehicles like trucks and buses should also ensure that all their back lights are working so as to avoid bumping from behind.
Pointing out that higher road medians have been causing lots of inconveniences to the public while crossing roads, one Dapi of Kongba suggested construction of foot-bridges and sub-ways.
