Imphal, August 25 2016:
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur(ATSUM) has warned agitation in case their charter of demands are not materialized within the month of August.
The union in a statement issued by its general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang said it is a matter of serious concern that the Director of Education (S) is sitting idle over the understanding reached between the Government of Manipur and the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) during the official discourse held on June 16, 2016 .
Considering the acute shortage of teachers in the hills, ATSUM spearheaded the initiative for regularization of Adhoc teachers in 2012.The Director of Education (S) submitted 362 Adhoc teachers for considering regularization on the basis of the recommendation of the screening committee headed by the then Director, Education(S).
However, the Department of Personnel intimated that the State Cabinet in its meeting held on July 29, 2013 decided to screen 335 Adhoc cases of Education (S) Department which was later rectified as 333 .
The Director of Education (S) was then asked to have a thorough verification of the list of 333 adhoc employees before the matter was placed for consideration of the Cabinet.
Whereas, having delayed for years after physical verification, ATSUM brought the matter during the official discourse on held on June 16 this year.
ATSUM delegates were assured by the incumbent Director, Education(S) in the presence of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi that the verification process will be completed by July end.
It is to be noted that ATSUM has been assured time and again that the Adhoc employess numbering 333 and 171 employees allegedly facing contempt of Court will be regularized within July 2016.It is neither desirable nor tolerable that the Government of Manipur is playing hide and seek with the organisation, he said.
With regards to the back log posts and special drive for Schedule Tribe (ST) in the Assembly, the Assembly Secretariat has created 190 posts in addition of 43 posts which is purely reserved for ST backlogs of different grades.
As agreed upon, it is high time that the notification/advertisement for the same is published and also appoint/nominate/select one tribal officer from the department as board member/recruitment board as has been agreed upon in the talk, he said.
He further added that ATSUM, as an apex students' organisation of the Tribals do not want to resort to anything detrimental to the State but if the lackadaisical attitude is to be applied, the damage done to the State will be costly.
It has further urged the State Government to address their charter of demands within the month of August.
