UK programme to address issue of human trafficking in NE

A 13 member high level Indian delegation will be in the UK from October 23-29 to attend a programme on Capacity Building of High Level Officials from Law Enforcement, Lawyers and Media in using Information Technology platform that would address human trafficking in North-East India.
The delegation comprises of law enforcement officials, lawyers and media persons such as L M Khaute, Indian Police Service, Director General of Police, Manipur; T Pachuau, Indian Police Service, Director General of Police , Mizoram; S Kakheto, Nagaland Police Service, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nagaland (law enforcement); Tashi Rapten Barfungpa, Advocate, High Court, Sikkim; Sunil Mow, Advocate, President- Athupopo Social Foundation, Arunachal Pradesh; Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Indian Express (Media); Amit Patro, Sikkim Express (media); Sanjeevan Devnath, Director/Co-Founder DFM InfoAnalytics, Indian Institute of Technology Incubation Centre (IT Rep, North East India); Krishan Varma, Indian Administrative Services Special Secretary (Retired) Government of India; Hasina Kharbhih, Founder Chair of Board Impulse NGO Network/Impulse Social Enterprises; AG Kharbhih, Finance Board Director, Impulse NGO Network; Emarine Kharbhih, Consultant, Impulse Model, Impulse NGO Network and Maitreya Shakya, Business Manager Impulse Social Enterprises.
The British High Commission-supported initiative is being organised by Impulse NGO Network, a 23-year-old organisation working to combat human trafficking in North East India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Nepal.
It aims to facilitate transfer of knowledge and skills to help develop appropriate strategies.
The delegates will meet a cross section of Government agencies, NGOs, UK businesses, policy experts and an IT agency to understand support systems at legislative level, fair trade practices and help build capacity on the ground.
Activities in the week long programme will include a round table with National Crime Agency, Thomson Reuters Foundation and Trust Law and Trust Women in London to understand support systems at legislative and policy level; a field visit to Heathrow Border Force and meet Crown Prosecution Service Metropolitan Police, Home Office and Modern Slavery Unit to build capacity for on-the-ground application of IT to detect/identify suspicious activity; meet Stop The Traffik and Child Exploitation and Online Protection to understand IT solutions; meet UK businesses (such as Matter & Co and London Fashion Week Reps) to understand long term prevention through
FairTrade mechanisms.
