Raising day of State police held

There will be harmony when there is peace and when there is harmony, development and progress will come on their own, asserted Chief Minister Okram Ibobi while claiming that the State's law and order situation has improved considerably in the past few years.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the 125th raising day anniversary of Manipur Police held today at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles parade ground.
He remarked that the profession of police seldom receives appreciation though criticisms are galore.
Yet, the roles and responsibilities of police are immense in any society.
Their responsibility to protect lives and properties of citizens are even more crucial in a sensitive State like Manipur which is facing a unique situation, Ibobi stated.
He also hailed the performance of Manipur during the past 125 years.
On account of various security measures initiated by Manipur Police, the State's law and order situation has improved remarkably.
Admitting that his Government is unable to provide adequate equipment, manpower and infrastructure to Manipur Police due to fund paucity, Ibobi maintained that people should be forgiving when police commit excesses because they commit the excesses not intentionally but out of mistake.
There is no instruction for the police personnel to commit any sort of excesses.
He also called upon all the people to work collectively so as to make Manipur Police a strong, responsible police force.
After releasing a monthly News Letter of Manipur Police, the Chief Minister gave away the Best Battalion Award, Best Police Station Award and the Best Police Officer Award.
3rd Thoubal, 5th MR Tamenglong and 9th IRB Khuman Lampak won the Best Battalion, 2nd Best Battalion and the 3rd Best Battalion Awards respectively.
While the Best Police Station Award was bagged by Singjamei police station, the 2nd Best Police Station Award was shared between Thoubal and Bishnupur police stations.
The 3rd Best Police Station Award was shared between Ukhrul and Kangpokpi police stations.
The Best Police Officer Award was conferred on ASI Kh Birendra of Singjamei police station.
The best award carries DGP Running Trophy, Commendation Certificate, and cash reward of 15,000 .
The 2nd and 3rd best awards carry Commendation Certificates and cash rewards of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5000 respectively.
Suhana Laishram who topped the HSLC Exam 2016 conducted by BOSEM was also felicitated with a cash reward of Rs 5000 and a certificate.
The raising day celebration was also attended by the Deputy Speaker, Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, high ranking civil and police officials.
DGP LM Khaute presented a brief account of the activities carried out by Manipur Police.
Earlier, the Chief Minister received salutes given by 22 march past contingents which included Civil Police, IRB, Home Guard, VDF, Traffic Police (Women), NCC, Sainik School, Manipur Police (Dog Squad) and Manipur Police Sports Club (Polo).
The march past parade was commanded by Additional SP Priyadarshini Laishram of Manipur Police Training College, Pangei.
