Legal awareness programme at Ukhrul

The Manipur State Commission (MSCW) for Women and College of Social Work, Manipur jointly organised a two-day legal awareness programme on domestic violence against women and provision in Indian Constitution at Ngashan Inn, Hamleikhong here under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women, New Delhi.
MSCW chairperson Dr L Ibetombi Devi called upon the women folk to join in fighting against atrocity on women.
A single Free Legal Aid Centre at Imphal is not sufficient and as such the same should be established at every district to secure women's rights, she said.
More than 40 women folk mostly the ICDS and social welfare staff and NGO's staff attended the two days legal awareness programme.
She also stressed on the important role played by media in the fight on against women.
"We cannot only rely on law enforcing agency, mass participation is needed to reduce crimes against women," she said.
June Rose Vaiphei, H Piteswori, members MSCW and S Saratkumar Sharma Director, College of Social Work, Manipur; AW Ringshangphi, PO, ICDS-Cell, Ukhrul and Ringphami member CWC, Ukhrul were the presidium members of the programme.
Speaking as the resource person, Meghachandra, Legal Advisor to MSCW dwelt on provision under Indian Constitution for women's rights and protection of women from domestic violence.
Tezii, SI, Ukhrul police station also spoke during the programme.
