ZC anticipates peace through Convention

Organiser of the 3rd World Zomi Convention, Zomi Council today said it expected to stimulate the much needed peace through the convention which is schedule for the last part of October and projected to focus on cultural exchanges and exhibition, seminars and fellowship with the divine.
Addressing posse of reporters today at the Zomi Council office here, the organising committee said the non-political gathering will focus on fabricating an inter as well as intra cultural integrity to bring about peace in the State of Manipur besides discussing the future aspect of Zomis settled across 35 countries world-wide.
They also stressed on the divine side of the convention which will see a simultaneous worship service across 10 Churches and a mass prayer to invoke blessings for the community.
'We believe that God has a design and purpose in spreading the Zomis across 35 countries.
We believe the physical and practical interaction which was planned through the convention and has eluded us until now will go a long way in integrating the Zomis one way or the other,' said Vungzamoi, the programme co-ordinator.
He added, unlike its preceding conventions the 3rd World Zomi Convention will not adopt any political resolutions as it was intended to be purely non-political.
The organisers also seek to distinguish the Zo people to that of those tribes under the Zomi Council saying the Zomis are the descendants of Zo, while the tribes under ZC are only the ones that subscribe to the policy and plans of the Council.
But, the convention they claimed, plans to include all those groups or clans that were not under the Council but were descendants of Zo, irrespective of their affiliation to the Zomi Council or not.
Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, Chief Minister Ibobi, Dy Chief Minister Gaikhanngam, Cabinet Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, MP Outer Manipur Thangso Baite and a good number of top ranking political leaders from the State are expected to grace alongside the region's top bureaucrats on the first day, Oct 25- the day cultural exchanges and exhibitions were planned.
Church Choirs expected to be over 50 will also present a common hymn but in different dialects, said the programme convenor, R Sanga.
Day two of the convention will focus on seminars and an afternoon fellowship while the third day will culminate with a valedictory service at Lamka public ground, he added.
