Chandel, June 05 2015 :
Electorate of 12/4 Kanankhu polling station under 12-District Headquarters DCC staged a sit in protest at DC Lamkhai waiting shed, Chandel district head quarters today demanding immediate arrest of those who tried to disrupt polling and to disqualify candidates who instigated the unrest.
The protesters said the demand for repoll at 12/4 Kanankhu polling station by some selected candidates is solely because of their failure to disrupt polls on June 1.If there were any proxy voting, the protesters stated, the polling agents could have lodged a complaint to the Presiding Officer on the same day.
Coupled with the demand for immediate arrest of those involved in attempting to disrupt the poll and disqualification of all the candidates involved in the malpractices, the protesters questioned the Election Officer's decision for repoll in the polling station concerned.
Placards inscribed with slogans like "Arrest the culprits", "We oppose the demand for shifting of 12/4 Polling Station", "Disqualify candidates who support the culprits", "We condemn external disturbances, find out the reality, we want justice", etc.
were put up during the protest.
Meanwhile, village authorities of Dampi, Kanankhu and Kurkam village, Chandel district have urged for free and fair voting in the upcoming repoll at 12/4 Kanankhu polling station.
In a joint statement, the village chiefs alleged that repolling at 12/4 Kanankhu polling station has been necessitated largely due to the involvement of non voters/outsiders at the polling station.
As such, no other persons will be allowed to enter the polling area except genuine voters and polling staff during the repoll which is scheduled to be held on June 6, the village chiefs stated.
