World Environment Day Tree plantations, mass meeting mark day

As observed in other parts of the world, the World Environment Day, 2015 was observed at various part of the State today.
The day was observed at Mantripukhri Forest Complex by the officers and staff of the forest complex.
L Joykumar Singh, Divisional Forest Officer, Central Forest Division stated that celebration of World Environment Day will be successful only when all the people know the root cause of various environmental issues like climate change, environmental degradation, pollution, depletion of biological diversity and wholeheartedly participate in the mitigation of these problems.
While appreciating the mass tree plantation organised by various sections of the people, the DFO appealed to the public to nurture the newly planted saplings and ensure cent percent survival.

He also appealed to the people to participate in the upcoming saplings plantation festival, Vanamahotsava Week to be observed by the Forest Department in the first week of July.
The Department has arranged saplings at different centres in Imphal West and Imphal East districts for the celebration.
Arun RS, Dy Conservator of Forests, Park and Sanctuary was also present at the function.
Later, about 100 saplings were planted inside Mantripukhri Forest Complex.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Imphal West also planted 300 saplings at Kiyam Village on the day.
M Sanahanbi, member, Awang Khunou Zilla Parishad, Th Mahendra, Conservator of Forest and Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NE Hill Region graced the observation as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Awang Khunou Zilla Parishad member M Sanahanibi declared an award of Rs 3000 to be handed over to the person who protects and nurtures the saplings that were planted today.
ICAR Joint Director Dr Th Mahendra, during his speech said the masses should be aware of the impact of climate change and pollution on the environment.
The June 5 of every year is celebrated as World Environment Day in most parts of the world to raise awareness on saving the planet.
The theme of the observation this year is "Seven Billion Dreams.
One Planet.
Consume with Care" .
A cycle rally was flagged off from Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) office at Keishampat by Dr N Sarat, Secretary, BOSEM on the occasion of World Environment Day today.
The participants later gathered at THAU ground for a public meeting after the rally.
DESAM president M Angamba Meitei, social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and AMWJU president W Shamjai were also present at the public meeting held today.
Sanjenbam Athletic Development Association in collaboration with Nongpok Ningthou Palungamba Ima Panthoibi Thougal Lup Sanjenbam Khullen and Sanjenbam Khullen Meira Paibi also observed the World Environment Day at Imphal East SADA ground.
Retired Assistant Teacher A Gouri Singh, MLA Kh Biren Singh and retired SI, Manipur police Yanglem Bhishma attended the observation.
Similar observation was conducted by Imphal West Students' Club (IWSC), Khumbong in association with Blooming Manipur at Khumbong Primary School today.
A tree plantation drive was conducted in and around Khumbong Primary School led by Lok Sabha MP and IWSC chief patron Dr T Meinya, Patsoi police station OC Saresa Kartik Laxmanbhai and Blooming Manipur Co-ordinator Satyajit Elangbam as part of the observation today.
Around 50 saplings were planted during the plantation drive, a statement issued by IWSC, Khumbong secretary informed.
Similar observations were seen at Mantripukhri Forest Complex, Keithelmanbi (Champhai)-Gopibung-West Selsi Road organized by Kuki Baptist Convention (KBC) Gambih No 5 Kangpokpi Area, Thoubal College organised by AMSU, Thoubal district, JNIMS hospital organised by JNIMS Students' Association and at Jiribam Government Higher Secondary School auditorium.
