Fitting tributes paid to Maharaj Narasingh

Imphal, May 06 2019:
Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee, Imphal and Shri Shri Gopinathjee Temple Board, Purana Rajbari, Nongmeibung, under the aegis of Art and Culture Department, Manipur, organised the 227th birth anniversary of Maharaja Narasingh at Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai today.
Art and Culture Director A Shivadas Sharma, Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee president E Sonamani Singh and Mutua Museum Director Mutua Bahadur attended the event as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, Shivadas Sharma spoke about the bravery shown by Maharaj a Narasingh during the 7 years devastation under the Burmese and added that the people should not forget the contributions of Narasingh for Manipur.
Even the State Government has erected a statue of Maharaja Narasingh inside Kangla in recognition of his bravery, he added.
It is imperative for the people to be aware of the determination, dedication and vision of Maharaja Narasingh and this is where various mediums like theatre, drama and music come into play.
Shivadas further assured that the State Government in collaboration with experts and other officials will look into the construction and maintenance of various memorials and structures in Myanmar and Bangladesh which are closely linked with the history of Manipur and its kings.
On the other hand, E Sonamani lamented that the people and the State Government seem to give less credit to Maharaja Narasingh and as such, he expressed desire for Narasingh's history to be archived and for a special memorial to be constructed at Sagolband Mantri Leikai.
Jalakeli performance, floral tribute and a prize distribution ceremony were also organised as part of the event today.
