Imphal, October 23 2020:
The Indigenous People Of Kangleipak (IPAK) has charged that business minded and corrupt approaches are the reason for widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the State.
IPAK in a statement said that the Government is unsuccesful in fighting the disease because of the due emphasis given on business and trade.
Such a situation can be considered as an 'artificial pandemic' in addition to the COVID-19 pandemic which is affecting all spheres of life and is likely to wipe out the entire indigenous population if not checked while there is time.
IPAK while deriding the frequent executive level and Cabinet meetings, expressed concern over the likely disastrous scenario in the State and called on the Ruling and Opposition parties to unite and chalk out a proper policy to effectively fight the situation.
The State Government should not remain content by relating State's case with India's overall case, it said while urging the former to initiate a State based study and research on the pandemic.
Expressing disappointment over the cases of deaths due to 'doctors' negligence', IPAK went on to point out that doctors are afraid to work wholeheartedly due to issuance of sub-standard equipment to them which can be further linked to 'corrupt and business minded approaches' .
'The artificial pandemic situation' is a result of overall irresponsible act on the part of the Health Department, doctors, Administrators and both the Ruling and Opposition Parties, charged IPAK while demanding a COVID-19 treatment system by incorporating doctors and experts well versed with microbiology, biochemistry and biotechnology.
If SOPs and measures favouring the interests of businessmen continue, the artificial pandemic will leave a deep irrecoverable dent, it said.
IPAK also urged all concerned to immediately retract the policy to discharge COVID-19 patients after 10 days of isolation and make sure that patients are discharged only after testing negative.
Doctors should also perform their duties wholeheartedly in saving lives and encourage the COVID-19 patients by administering immunity boosters, it said.
Even if COVID-19 care centres fail to meet with the demand, family members and relatives should be allowed to assist, IPAK said while appealing all concerned to provide quality equipment to doctors at the frontline rather than 'indulging in corruption'.
IPAK went on to appeal to the State Government to ramp up measures and SOPs in view of the festive season and by-elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly due to be held next month.
