DESAM tables school inspection report-II

Tabling its inspection report on various schools, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has drawn the attention of the Government and its related authorities for remedial measures.
According to the report, there is neither teacher nor student at Chairel Primary School ever since its lone regular teacher expired in 2007 .
The school is being run by a helper who had been appointed by the late teacher.
It was also found that entitled benefits like mid-day meal items have been taken out in connivance with a circle AI.
Construction of two rooms of the school were started last year under SSA, however left incomplete till date.
Moreover, another room has been started construction without maintaining quality control.
At Wangoo Sabal LP (Aided) School, which is supposed to be run by an approved teacher and two unapproved teachers, 71 students of Class I and II are jam-packed in a single room.
According to the Headmistress, the school has got only 100 Kgs of rice in the name of mid-day meal this year.
Moreover, the school is entitled to a meagre amount of Rs 500 as teacher's grant.
On the otherhand, there is no student at Chairen Junior High School, which has four teachers and one chowkidar.
According to a local, no student turned up for admission at the school this year as the teachers had been utilised for Census operations.
On the contrary, 84 students of Nungoo Government Primary School is being taught by a single teacher.
However, three members of SMDC assist the lone teacher in the smooth running of the school.
Nungoo Khongyam Primary School also has neither teacher nor student.
The school has a ruined and an incomplete building.
At Tangjeng Primary School, the DESAM team did not come across any teacher and student.
However, according to the locals, the school, which has about 10 students and two teachers, is opened in the morning.
As the school building of Sungu Primary School had been collapsed long time back, the school is being run at Sugnu Junior High School.
As no teacher has been sent after the death of its teacher, the students are currently taught by the teachers of the Junior High School with the help of locally appointed teachers.
Sugnu Junior High School has 161 students and five teachers.
On the otherhand, Sugnu Higher Secondary School, which has 23 teachers and five non-teaching staff, has not received any entitled benefits from the Government.
The school, which has both Science and Arts streams, does not have separate toilets for boys and girls, proper library and computer lab.
According to the Headmaster of Serou Practical High School, Class I to V is being run by a private team while Class VI X is being taught by Government teachers as the Government has stopped taking admission from Class I to V.It was also found that Meetei mayek is not taught in the school.
At Serou Bengali Primary School, there is two teachers and 40 students.
Even though the enrolment record indicated 60 students in Serou Primary Manipuri School, the DESAM team came across only three-four students.
Mid-day meal items and maintenance amount and RTE school uniforms are received regularly.
