Imphal, September 21 2011:
An inmate lodged at Sajiwa Central Jail was found hung to death inside the prison complex this morning.
According to a police source, 50-year old Sailasho Poumai was found hanging with a twirled nylon mosquito net from a window frame of a toilet in Sector 3/5, at around 6.30 am today.
Information received from members of the deceased person, who was from Phaibung Khunou under Tadubi police station in Senapati district, said Sailasho was sent to Sajiwa Jail only yesterday.
He was consequently imprisoned after arrest by a team of Assam Rifles for possessing contraband ganja from an Ukhrul district area some days back, maintained the family members who also denied involvement of Sailasho in ganja smuggling.
They contended that owner of the ganja had persuaded Sailasho for accompaniment but managed to escape arrest by the AR team.
Meanwhile, Sailasho's body was removed in the presence of a Magistrate after which relevant inquest was carried out before being handed over to the family members on completion of post mortem at JNIMS.
Heingang PS have registered a case.
