Imphal, September 21 2011:
Endorsing the stand of Naga apex bodies, Liangmei Naga Council, Senapati Zone has expressed strong opposition to the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries constituted by the Government of Manipur.
In a statement jointly signed by its chairman T Disimang and secretary M Panamthinang, the Council contended that the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundaries constituted by the Government of Manipur seems to have a hidden agenda to bifurcate the existing boundary of Senapati district.
The Council upholds and respect the numerous MoUs signed between the Government of Manipur and the Naga frontal organisations for better future.
So, tribal land should be safeguarded by the Constitution of India and rights and customary laws of the tribals should be protected, the Council demanded, while expressing strongly opposition to any move to disturb the existing boundary of Senapati district.
