General strike ends peacefully, affects normal life

Imphal, September 21 2011:
Normal life was severely affected in the state due to a dawn to dusk general strike which came to an end at 5 pm today.
However there's no report of any untoward incident during the 12 hour state wide general strike called by an armed group KCP (Maoist) in protest against the alleged disappearance of proscribed Revolutionary People's Front leader GM Changjou, after being arrested from Dimapur last month.
Most of the market places and educational institutions remained closed for the day and passenger vehicles suspended their normal services along the roads of the state during the strike.
The busy Khwairamband keithel also wore desolate look from dawn to dusk.
The strike also affected the functioning of the government offices in the state.
However, there were reports of normal air traffic at Tulihal airport here.
