Imphal, August 14, 2012:
Like in other parts of the State and beyond, Patriots' Day was observed at Jiribam sub-divisional headquarters on August 13 with Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
Speaking at the observance, organised by Pari Puri Athouba Ningshing Lup in collaboration with student bodies and voluntary organisations, Minister mirabai exhorted the people to strive for economic emancipation and promote peace and amity in the region.
Describing Manipur as an economically backward State and dependent on the Central Government, she claimed Manipur's advancement continues to be insignificant for all its resources and financial assistance from the Centre are normally exhausted in trying to pay salary to the employees.
Noting that implementation of the Sixth Pay scale had only aggravated the financial position of the State, Mirabai said manipur's economy would be self-reliant only when the people have practical sense of work culture.
Besides MU's College Development Council Director RK Ranjan, representatives of AMSU, DESAM, KSA, UCM, NIPCO and All Jiribam Meira Paibi Lup also attended the event.
