14th Finance Commission in Nagaland

A 16-member delegation of the 14th Finance Commission led by Chairman Dr YV Reddy are currently in Nagaland to study the performance of the state with regard to the recommendations of the 13th Finance Com- mission and also make its recommendations as per the norms of the Constitution of India.
The delegation arrived here yesterday and met Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his ca- binet colleagues in the secretariat here today.
Briefing media persons on the outcome of the meeting, Rio said he submitted a me-morandum to the commission on financial aspects of the state and other infrastructure development requirements.
Rio also highlighted about the Special Status granted to the state for financial assistance following the 16 point agreement which brought about statehood to Nagaland in 1963 .
He said FFC Chairman Reddy in his remark expressed happiness to have learnt better about the state through the power point presentation and the memoran- dum.
Rio also said that the Com-mission has assured to give a considered view to the Government of India in their re- commendations.
He said Nagaland would be celebrating 50 years of statehood from December 1, 2013 without the basic infrastructure like airport in Kohima, dilapidated road conditions, without any technical or medical infrastructure.
Nonetheless, Rio expressed hope that the 14th Finance Commission has understood the problems of the state and they would give special dispensation.
The delegation are scheduled to have meetings with officials and representatives of urban, rural, local bodies, tribal organisations, department of industries and commerce and political parties tomorrow.
They would leave Kohima for Manipur tomorrow evening.
