Imphal, July 28 2016:
Womenfolk belonging to different areas of Sagolband Assembly Constituency today took out a protest rally against denial of the exact quantity of rice to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) before and after the Act was launched in the State.
The womenfolk assembled together at Sagolband Thingom Leikai community hall and marched towards Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Imphal-Jiribam and Tera before turning back to the starting point.
They shouted slogans like "Don't violate civil rights", "Exact quantities of rice entitled to beneficiaries under NFSA should be delivered" etc.
Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Corporator Salam Tiken said that rice allocations for Sagolband AC for the months of January, February and March were lifted but they were not delivered to beneficiaries.
Rice allocations for the months of April, May, June and July are being distributed.
But the distribution is done based on electoral rolls rather than on NFSA beneficiary list, Tiken said.
Out of seven FPS agents nominated for Sagolband AC, three are Government employees while one is a Corporator.
All these irregularities aggrieved the people, particularly the womenfolk and they came out to the streets today, he added.
